To close out 2017, real estate leaders and investors gathered to discuss communities on the rise and people building them during Bisnow’s Miami’s Emerging Neighborhoods panel. Wynwood, Little River, Upper East Side, North Beach and several others were among the neighborhoods discussed.
Discussing new responsible development in North Beach were Ocean Terrace’s own Sandor Scher, managing partner of Akerman and former City of Miami Beach Mayor Neisen Kasdin and Della Heiman, Founder and CEO of Wynwood Yard/della test kitchen.
During the North Beach panel, we learned more about Scher’s vision for Ocean Terrace, which he explained will be focused on quality, unique retailers and eateries vs. national big chain brands. Specs of the future vibe can already be felt across Ocean Terrace, where a vegan and gluten-free bakery and customized bike shop were recently built and have open their doors. Scher describes he was inspired by looking to the DNA of Ocean Terrace to recreate it in a way that works for current and future audiences. He also shared how the project will bring vast economic benefits such as new jobs, preserve the character of the area, address street and public spaces, and activate the overall area for the North Beach community.
A collaboration with the planned North Beach Yard, a location where entrepreneurs will come to test and validate their ideas with supportive customers and top-notch mentors, was teased during the panel. The goal is for some of the best performing food and beverage entrepreneurs testing out their culinary skills at the North Beach Yard to build a permanent location at Ocean Terrace.
One major take away from the panel is landlords are no longer willing to rent to just any tenant. They are highly committed to working with tenants that are helping the area and investing in their properties to benefit the broader community.
